NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — An FDNY firefighter was hospitalized after being injured during a three-alarm fire in the Bronx on Monday morning.
The flames erupted at approximately 8:18 a.m. at a building located at East 171st Street and Clay Avenue in Claremont Village. It rapidly escalated to three alarms as it spread from the top floor into the cockloft (the void space between the ceiling and the roof).
The firefighter suffered an injury in a fall that occurred after the fire had been brought under control. He issued a mayday call and was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital in serious but stable condition.
Two civilians were also injured. The extent of their injuries are unknown. One additional firefighter sustained minor injuries.
The fire spread through four apartments and was placed under control at 10:12 a.m., FDNY officials said.
