OLD BRIDGE, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- An off-duty FDNY firefighter was killed in a crash on southbound Route 9 in New Jersey early Thursday morning, officials said.
The fatal crash occurred at Schulmeister Road at around 1:45 a.m. where 43-year-old James Marshall, of Staten Island, was killed when he rear-ended a tractor trailer on southbound Route 9.
Marshall, a 19-year veteran that comes from a family of firefighters was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the tractor trailer driver was a 43-year-old man and was treated for a non-life-threatening injury, authorities said.
Officials closed the southbound lanes for several hours for the investigation.
