NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A massive five-alarm fire tore through a matzah bakery in Brooklyn early Wednesday morning, resulting in a partial collapse that briefly trapped a firefighter and injured three others.
Fire officials responded to the Boro Park Seder Matzah Bakery, located at 1285 36th St. in Borough Park, just before 2 a.m. where they encountered a heavy fire blowing out of the first floor of the two-story building.
The flames escalated with extreme speed, jumping to a second alarm within twenty minutes and eventually reaching five alarms.
As firefighters battled thick smoke and navigated the roof, a portion of the building’s rear setback suddenly gave way, briefly trapped a firefighter under debris, according to the FDNY.
Firefighters quickly extricate him and he was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
A child and two adults in an adjacent building also suffered minor injuries and were taken to area hospitals in stable condition.
There were 40 separate units who worked on the flames which was contained at about 4:30 a.m.
The exact cause of the fire is unclear and is under investigation.
