NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — A new beer has been created to support the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation and its mission to help the families of military members and first responders.
The new BRAVEST: Tunnel to Towers Golden Ale is being brewed by Staten Island's Flagship Brewing Company and out on the West Coast by California-based Santa Maria Brewing Co.
It will be available on both coasts starting in September.
Fifty-percent of proceeds of every ale sold will be donated to the foundation to support its mission to provide mortgage-free homes to injured veterans, families of late first responders and Gold Star families.
The brew is a 4.9% ABV, easy-drinking golden ale brewed with Huell Melon and Cascade hops.
A launch party will be held at the Flagship Taproom at 6 p.m. on Sept. 3. The beer will first be available on tap and in six-packs at the brewery before eventually hitting local distributors and restaurants, SILIVE.com reported.
“This is the first time Tunnel to Towers has partnered with a brewery in our 20 years history. Tunnel to Towers and Flagship both started out as an idea conceived right here in Staten Island and we are honored that the Foundation’s first beer is being brewed in our own backyard,” foundation Chairman and CEO Frank Siller said.
Santa Maria Brewing Co. will produce the beer on the West Coast and distribute it at participating locations.
The beer will be available in more states, including New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania, later this year.

Frank Siller founded the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation in memory of his firefighter brother who was off-duty when he ran through the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel in full FDNY gear to get to the World Trade Center, where he was killed.
Siller is currently walking from Washington, D.C. to the World Trade Center site in Lower Manhattan to mark the 20th anniversary of the terror attacks and help raise money for the foundation.
