NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A persistent, foul odor led to a badly decomposed body in bushes outside an apartment building on Queens Boulevard over the weekend, police said Monday.
Residents had reportedly noticed the putrid odor for weeks, but it wasn't until police officers were called to the building at 62nd Avenue in Rego Park around 1 p.m. Sunday that the gruesome discovery was made.
The body was out of sight—behind bushes and under scaffolding, police said.
The decomposition was so far along that the sex of the victim wasn't immediately discernible, according to police.
The medical examiner is working to determine how the person died.
