PHOTOS: Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade marches on despite pandemic
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Despite the ongoing pandemic, Macy’s still managed to put on its annual Thanksgiving Day Parade in Manhattan without a hitch.
With COVID-19 restrictions in place, including mask wearing and social distancing, the parade looked much different from past holidays. The biggest change being that the parade nixed its usual 2.5-mile route and didn’t allow crowds of onlookers to attend the event.
Giant balloons still soared in the sky, but without their typical 80 to 100 handlers. The number of day-of participants was reduced by 88% to remain in compliance with coronavirus restrictions.
While much of the event was pre-recorded over the last three days, there was still plenty to see live on Thursday.
