NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The twin panels of the Empty Sky Memorial at Liberty State Park are closed to the public this week as preservation crews—backed by a more than $41,000 funding effort from the Gary Sinise Foundation—work to meticulously clean all 749 engraved names of New Jersey residents killed on 9/11.
The project aims to restore the monument "back into shape where it's presentable and honorable to those families and to the sacrifice that was made on that day," Jim Ravella, executive vice president of the foundation told 1010 WINS.
Faith Miller, whose 46-year-old husband Robert Allen Miller died in the Twin Towers, welcomed the restoration while calling for the unfinished memorial's final completion "Not only are we grateful for that, but we also hope to see the empty sky memorial should be completed,” she said.
