Ghislaine Maxwell sleeping with sock over eyes due to jail flashlight checks: report

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Guards at the Brooklyn jail where Ghislaine Maxwell is being held regularly shine flashlights into her cell at night, forcing her to sleep with a sock over her eyes, her attorney reportedly said Monday.

Maxwell's lawyer on Monday asked a panel of appeals court judges to release her on bail before her trial, "in part because of the conditions she faces at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn," the New York Post reported.

Maxwell has not been able to sleep due to flashlight checks that take place every 15 minutes, her attorney, David Markus, claimed, according to the outlet.

Prosecutors maintained the checks are "routine," and added that the jail provided Maxwell with a facemask, but Markus disagreed, the outlet reported.

"There's nothing routine about it," he reportedly said. "The idea that she has an eye mask is wrong. She either uses a sock or a towel to block out the light on her own."

The panel of judges has yet to make a decision on Maxwell's bail request, the outlet reported.
