NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A 16-year-old girl was killed and her eight-year-old sister was injured after they were struck by a water delivery truck that drove off in front of a Queens school on Wednesday afternoon, police said.
The girls were hit in front of 4602 47th Ave. in Sunnyside, the location of Woodside Intermediate School 125, at about 3:30 p.m.
Officials said that the eight-year-old was transported to NewYork-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center in stable condition, and the 16-year-old was pronounced dead.
Police said that the two girls were sisters.
The box truck driver did not remain on the scene but was stopped about a block away and taken into custody. It was not immediately clear what charges the operator will face.
The investigation is ongoing.

Wednesday was the last day of school for New York City Public Schools.
This incident occurred only four hours after an 83-year-old woman was killed after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Bond Street in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn. The driver remained on the scene and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
