NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A 16-year-old girl was struck by a stray bullet as a young shooter gunned down a security guard on a Brooklyn street early Friday morning, police said.

The girl was hit in the buttocks as gunfire erupted at 12 a.m. near Linden Boulevard and Utica Avenue in East Flatbush.

The security guard, 29, had just left work and was getting off the bus when a "group of kids," believed to be young males, stopped him from exiting, NYPD Chief of Detectives James Essig said at a news conference.

During the ensuing dispute, the man noticed someone in the group had a gun, so he ran from them, police said.

As he was running away, the shooter fired multiple times, striking him and the girl, who police described as a bystander.

"He flees, shots were fired, he was struck, and the unintended 16-year-old was struck too," Essig said. "Detectives are out there right now scouring the area for video."

The man and the girl were hospitalized and are both expected to survive.

No arrests had been made as of Friday.
