NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A large group of thieves ransacked a Queens Sunglass Hut twice in two weeks, making off with more than $40,000 worth of merchandise, police said Thursday as they released suspect photos.

The half-dozen suspects hit the Sunglass Hut at Macy’s on Roosevelt Avenue in downtown Flushing on the evening of Jan. 8—and then again on the evening off Jan. 20, according to cops.

In both incidents, they simply walked in the store around 7:15 p.m. and started grabbing merchandise before fleeing on foot.

They made off with $16,780 worth of items the first time and another $23,958 in loot the second time, police said, for a total of $40,738.

No injuries were reported in either incident.

With grand larcenies up 50% in the city, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced a $45 million plan Wednesday to combat retail theft.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
