NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The NYPD took state Assemblyman Eddie Gibbs into custody Thursday after stopping his car in Manhattan, sources told 1010 WINS.

Gibbs—a Democrat who represents Central Harlem, East Harlem, Randall’s Island and parts of the Upper East Side in district 68—was pulled over in upper Manhattan by the NYPD’s Strategic Response Group.

It was not immediately clear why the assemblyman was taken into custody, but he was at the 25th Precinct stationhouse on Thursday afternoon.

It is not yet known if the detention is connected to the federal case in which Mayor Eric Adams was indicted.

1010 WINS reached out to Gibbs’s office for comment.

Gibbs is the first formerly incarcerated person to serve in the New York State Legislature, and joined the Assembly in 2022.
