WEATHER: Severe thunderstorm watch, heat advisory in effect for NYC

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A severe thunderstorm watch and a heat advisory are in effect for New York City through Wednesday night, with humidity expected to linger throughout the day.

Temperatures were slated to reach 93 degrees on Wednesday, with RealFeel temperatures reaching 105 at times, according to AccuWeather. A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for the five boroughs until 11 p.m. Wednesday night.


There is potential for gusty winds and a downpour, according to AccuWeather. A flash flood watch is also in effect for New York City until noon on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Thursday will not be as hot — the temperature is expected to reach 86 degrees — but will still be humid, with clouds and a shower or thunderstorm possible.

The area could see steadier rain and wind Thursday night into Friday morning as Tropical Storm Elsa passes by. Friday afternoon is expected to be partly sunny, with a shower or two and a high of 82 degrees.
