NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Gov. Kathy Hochul on Monday warned New York baseball fans to be cautious of potential scams when purchasing last-minute tickets for a Yankees-Dodgers game at Yankee Stadium.

“We couldn’t be more excited for our New York Yankees to bring the World Series to the Bronx this week,” Hochul said. “With demand soaring to witness this historic match up, I’m encouraging New Yorkers to protect their hard earned money and be on the lookout for potential ticket scams. Follow our tips to avoid falling victim as we cheer on the Yankees this week.”

For the first time since 1981, the Yankees and Dodgers are facing off in the World Series, with Game 3 bringing the series to New York City on Monday. Scammers may exploit the high demand, targeting eager fans with fraudulent ticket sales.

Hochul is urging fans to follow guidance from the New York Department of State’s Division of Consumer Protection to avoid ticket scams ahead of the Yankees-Dodgers game. Fans are encouraged to buy directly from the venue whenever possible and verify the seller’s authenticity by checking sites like VerifiedTicketSource.com, which confirms membership with the National Association of Ticket Brokers.

Fans should also be careful for fake websites mimicking legitimate sellers by carefully inspecting URLs. It’s best to purchase tickets from known and trusted vendors, as platforms like Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, and social media are common grounds for scammers selling counterfeit tickets.

Additionally, fans are advised to avoid ticket scalpers outside the venue, as they often vanish after selling fake tickets. To further safeguard purchases, consumers should choose payment methods with built-in protections.
