NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – In the last week, the omicron variant has gone from being identified to being right here in New York.
Thursday Gov. Kathy Hochul and Mayor Bill De Blasio held a joint press conference to announce there were at least 5 cases in the state. By now, that number has more than likely multiplied.
As it continues to spread, like the original virus, there are numerous questions surrounding it. Despite being nearly two years into this pandemic, what's so concerning about this particular variant is that there are still so many unanswered questions.
On the latest episode of 1010 WINS' In Depth Podcast, host Femi Underwood speaks with Dr. Ian Lipkin. Having served as the Chief Scientific Consultant for the Steven Soderbergh film "Contagion" a decade ago, Lipkin has quite a lot of insight about what's going on now because, in this instance, life is actually initiating art.
Together the two discuss the mysteries surrounding the variant so far, and what kind of risk its presence in the Big Apple poses.
