Indiana college student, 20, killed by stray bullet in Brooklyn

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A 20-year-old college student from Indiana who was visiting New York died after he was hit by a stray bullet in Brooklyn early Saturday morning, according to police and his family.

Ethan Williams was sitting on a stoop with friends on Eldert Street, near Bushwick Avenue, in Bushwick around 2:30 a.m. when shots rang out, police said. Citizen App video shows a heavy police presence at the scene.

Williams was shot in the chest and rushed to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Sources told 1010 WINS that Williams was not the intended target of the shooting.

Williams was from Indianapolis, according to police.

His father told WABC that he was a sophomore studying film media at Indiana University. He said his son was also a member of the Mayor's Youth Council of Indianapolis.

Police said there have been no arrests and that an investigation is ongoing.
