NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Police are investigating after a speeding Corvette apparently sparked a chain-reaction crash in Upper Manhattan early Thursday morning, hospitalizing its driver and passenger as well as a pedestrian who was on the sidewalk.

Witnesses told 1010 WINS that they saw the vehicle drag racing through the Inwood streets ahead of the collision.

"He went past me probably like 70 to 80 miles an hour and then did a couple of laps like that, probably three times I saw him," one man said. "And then as soon as he came up to the crest of the hill here, I heard the bang."

The Corvette was traveling east on Sherman Avenue just after 6:30 a.m. when it crashed into a Mercedes-Benz at West 204th Street, then struck a 34-year-old pedestrian before coming to a stop.

"The one guy was laying out of the car, like he got ejected," the witness continued. "Another guy, I think, was on the sidewalk and got hit."

The Mercedes-Benz then hit a parked car, and that parked car crashed into an unoccupied moped. Police are searching for the driver of the Mercedes-Benz, who got out of the vehicle and fled.

The driver and a passenger in the Corvette, along with the pedestrian, were taken to NYC Health + Harlem in stable condition.
