NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Gov. Kathy Hochul said Wednesday that Jones Beach will have a drone show on Memorial Day weekend as part of statewide activities celebrating America’s 250th anniversary and New York’s outsized role in the revolution.

The air show will move from its normal weekend to July 4 in order to make way for a light and music show “featuring 1,000 drones creating patriotic images hundreds of feet in the air,” Hochul said from Jones Beach State Park.

In addition to the drone show at 9 p.m. on Sunday, May 24, Jones Beach will feature a historical village with historical reenactors and exhibits highlighting Long Island’s role in the Revolutionary War.

Hochul said parking will also be free at Jones Beach throughout Memorial Day weekend to make sure it’s more accessible.

The governor was flanked by a George Washington reenactor. “Even 200 years hence that New York and Long Island stood at the center of America’s founding,” he said.
