NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Sources confirmed to 1010 WINS that a knife-wielding woman was shot by police as they responded to reports of people being stabbed in Times Square on Monday.
At 4:50 p.m., the NYPD warned the public to avoid West 43rd Street and Seventh Avenue due to a police investigation. Thirty minutes later, the department officially closed traffic on Seventh Avenue from West 42nd Street to West 47th Street.
Video obtained by 1010 WINS taken by witnesses at the scene show a woman swinging what appear to be two knives in large circles while surrounded by a group of officers. Several tasers are deployed, but the woman continues to advance toward the officers, and shots are fired.
