NEW YORK (1010 WINS/880 WCBS) – A traveler flying out of LaGuardia Airport tried to take cannabis on her flight by concealing it in a diaper she was wearing.
TSA Public Affairs spokesperson Lisa Farbstein posted a picture of the contraband on X Friday morning where she explained the situation.
"A @TSA checkpoint scanner alarmed on a woman's groin, resulting in a patdown. Turned out that the woman had pot concealed in a diaper she was wearing at @LGAairport," the post read.
"She was traveling with her mom and was attempting to hide it from her by putting it in a diaper. (Bad strategy)," the post concluded.
It's illegal to fly with cannabis in any form, even between two places where it is legal, in accordance with federal law. If TSA officers come across cannabis in a passenger's luggage, they are supposed to notify local law enforcement, TSA said.
Local law enforcement likely won't respond to airport calls if cannabis is found in amounts that follow local law, according to The Washington Post.
Medical marijuana is the exception and is allowed in both carry-on and checked bags, TSA said.
Farbstein added that TSA allowed the woman to dispose of the cannabis and make her flight.
