NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – Nassau County Police sent out new details on Tuesday about a string of package thefts targeting residences on Long Island.
The unidentified thieves were caught on camera taking FedEx packages from the front doors of multiple homes in broad daylight, between Oct. 5 and Oct. 16, police said.
The series of thefts took place on Pacific Street and Jerusalem Avenue in Massapequa Park, Hamilton Avenue in Massapequa, Park Lane in Massapequa Park, Philadelphia Avenue in Massapequa Park, and Bayview Avenue in Wantagh.
With the holiday season approaching, Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman is warning residents about the increase in such crimes.
"If you're sending an expensive gift to be delivered, it should be either signature only or send it to your workplace," Blakeman said. For packages that must be delivered to a home, he suggests arranging for them to be left in the backyard or to ask a neighbor to collect them.
Police are urging anyone with information on the recent package thefts to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS or to call 911.
