LONG ISLAND (1010 WINS) -- A Suffolk County sheriff's deputy was punched and bitten during a traffic stop Thursday night, the county's Sheriff's Office said.
According to the office, deputies pulled over Daniela Pintado for speeding through a traffic circle and failing to maintain her lane in Riverhead just after 10 p.m. Thursday.
Officials said the 21-year-old from Riverhead showed signs of intoxication, was aggressive and tried to walk away while a sobriety test was being performed.
Pintado is accused of physically assault a deputy while they tried putting her in handcuffs, and allegedly punched and kicked him, and bit his index finger.
The deputy went to a hospital with injuries to his face and finger, officials said.
Pintado has been charged with second-degree assault, obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest and DWI.
"We will seek to have this defendant prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law," says Sheriff Errol Toulon Jr.
Earlier this week, Suffolk sheriffs say they made three DWI arrests in a single night.
