NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A Long Island woman was caught allegedly mistreating her female Maltese, Minni, which was found with matted hair and covered in feces and dirt, authorities announced Sunday.

The Suffolk County SPCA has charged Marylyn Richards, 58, of West Babylon, with animal cruelty after investigators discovered Minni's neglect.

"The severe matting and untreated medical issues caused the dog substantial pain, impaired vision and restriction of movement. The dog also had severe dental disease including infections and abscesses in its mouth," the SPCA said in a statement.

Richards has been charged with a misdemeanor under the Agriculture & Markets law, according to Roy Gross, the SPCA's chief.

Richards is due to appear in First District Court, Central Islip, NY on November 10, 2021.
