NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A 20-year-old man was repeatedly stabbed in the back by a stranger outside an NYU building in Manhattan on Thursday afternoon, police said.
NYPD video released on Friday shows the suspect—a ponytailed man in sweats carrying a red suitcase—in the brazen and unprovoked assault in NoHo.
The victim was walking southbound on Lafayette Street, just west of the NYU campus and south of the Cooper Union, when his attacker came up from behind around 1:30 p.m. and plunged a sharp object into his back.
The victim was stabbed twice in front of 404 Lafayette St. by the man, who then fled down Lafayette towards East 4th Street.
The address is an NYU athletics building, though it's unclear if the victim is a student at the school.
The victim suffered two puncture wounds to his back. He went to a hospital for treatment.
