NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 21-year-old man was indicted for two fatal shootings carried out on consecutive days in Harlem last month, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office announced Thursday.
Messiah Nantwi, 21, is accused of killing Jaylen Duncan, 19, and Brandon Brunson, 36, on April 8 and 9.
Nantwi allegedly shot Duncan at the intersection of East 132nd Street and Madison Avenue around 4:40 p.m. on April 8.
Prosecutors said after he shot him, he stood over the teenager and continued to fire, ensuring his death.
The next day around 7:50 p.m., Nantwi is accused of shooting Brunson inside a store called Smoke Shop on Malcolm X Boulevard near West 125th Street. The defendant allegedly shot the man in the head after he made a purchase.
“Messiah Nantwi murdered two people in a span of 27 hours, and the family and loved ones of these victims are now suffering deep pain and trauma,” said Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. “Gun violence tears at the fabric of our neighborhoods, and I join those mourning the loss of these two men.”
Nantwi faces charges for murder and weapon possession.
