NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A 26-year-old man was fatally shot in the head outside his home in the Bronx on Thursday evening, police said as the search continued for his killer.
The gunfire in East Tremont around 5 p.m. claimed the life of Mario Guerrero, who was shot outside an apartment building at 1898 Belmont Ave.
He was shot on the sidewalk and pronounced dead at the scene.
No arrests were immediately reported as investigators searched for evidence into the night. A motive for the shooting remains unknown.
Members of the victim’s family consoled each other near the scene.
His uncle, William Guerrero, said Mario loved his family and worked in construction.
“He was a calm young man, a family man, an educated man,” Guerrero said in Spanish.
Maria, who lived a few doors down from the victim, said he kept to himself.
“He just walks his dog around, he just go right back in the house,” she said. “It’s crazy how they just kill someone like that.”
She said she’s afraid to go outside after the shooting.
“It’s like you can’t even be in front of your house because it’s like the bullets just come from nowhere,” she said.
