Man, 32, stabbed to death on subway train in Penn Station

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A subway commuter was stabbed to death early Sunday morning in an apparently unprovoked attack at the city’s busiest transit hub.

The victim was on a northbound 2 train at 12:17 a.m. Sunday when the attacker stabbed him in the neck as the train pulled into the 34th St-Penn Station stop in Manhattan, police said.

The victim was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Cops said they believe the victim might have been sleeping when he was attacked.

The assailant fled the station in an unknown direction.

"This is an absolutely horrible crime," said MTA spokesman Aaron Donovan in a statement. "We are working with the NYPD and will do everything possible to cooperate with their search for this perpetrator, and help make sure our subways are safe."

The suspect is described as approximately 5 foot 9 inches tall and 185 pounds with a medium build. Surveillance footage released by the NYPD shows the suspect wearing a white baseball hat, a black face mask, a gray jacket, a white shirt with an orange and black checkered hood.
