NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A man died after running his moped into the side of a car in the Bronx on Friday evening, the NYPD said.

At about 7:39 p.m., in the Belmont section of the Bronx, 35-year-old William Cruz of Harlem was driving his two-wheeled gas-powered moped southbound on Park Avenue.

An investigation found that when Cruz went to cross East 183rd Street, he t-boned the driver side of a black sedan traveling eastbound.

Upon arrival at the scene, police found Cruz conscious and alert. He was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital where he could not be saved.

The black sedan did not remain on the scene, authorities said. It was last seen making a right turn onto Washington Avenue from East 183rd Street.
