NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A 41-year-old man from Long Island died after he was struck by a cyclist in Central Park last week, police said Tuesday.
Richard O'Brien, of Port Jefferson Station, died Sunday at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center.
O'Brien was struck by a pedal bicyclist around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday on East Drive, just behind the Metropolitan Museum of Art at East 84th Street.
Police said a 32-year-old man riding the bike struck him on the roadway, causing him to fall to the ground and suffer severe head trauma.
The cyclist was thrown from the bicycle and landed on the pavement, police said. He suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
O'Brien, a father of two, was a union steamfitter who was heading to work at the time of the collision, according to Streetsblog.
