Man, 50, found dead in Brooklyn holding cell, cause of death being investigated

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 50-year-old Brooklyn man was found dead in a holding cell Monday morning, authorities said.

Officials said Jamaine Smith was found unconscious in the cell of Brooklyn Central Booking around 11:07 a.m.

Smith was transported to Brookdale Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police said they do not yet know his cause of death.

Smith was being held at the jail for an outstanding burglary, according to cops.
