NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A man who jumped off a Staten Island Ferry into New York Harbor on Saturday later died at a hospital, police said.
The 53-year-old man jumped from the Ferryboat Andrew J. Barberi as it was pulling away from a dock at the Whitehall Ferry Terminal in Manhattan, police told the New York Post.
NYPD Harbor responded around 2 p.m. and pulled the man from the frigid water. CPR was performed on him after dozens of emergency personnel responded, a witness told the Post.
The man was taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital, where he was pronounced dead about an hour later, according to police.
