NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A 72-year-old man was shoved onto the tracks and injured in an unprovoked attack at the Rockefeller Center subway station in Midtown on Wednesday morning, police said.

The victim was on the northbound B/D/F/M platform shortly before 4 a.m. when his attacker pushed him from behind, according to the NYPD.

He landed on the tracks but did not make contact with the electrified third rail or get hit by a train, police said. He used a ladder at the end of the platform to climb back up.

The victim was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in stable condition.

Responding officers placed a person of interest into custody. Police said an investigation is ongoing, and there’s no known motive.
