NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A grandfather fell to his death from a Manhattan apartment building over the weekend after climbing out of a window to escape violent home invaders, police said.
The 73-year-old man fell six stories from the building at West 161st Street and Broadway in Washington Heights early Saturday morning, according to police.
The victim was in the apartment around 4:40 a.m. when three home invasion robbers forced their way into the residence.
The trio tied up the victim’s 40-year-old son before stealing a gold necklace worth $8,000 and around $200 in cash, the NYPD said.
As the home invasion was unfolding, the grandfather climbed out a window to escape the robbers but ended up plummeting to the ground below, according to police. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.
The victim was identified in reports as Jacinto Remigo.
The suspects fled the scene and remained at large on Monday.
