NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 74-year-old man was slashed by a knife-wielding would-be mugger on a Manhattan street early Monday morning, according to police.
The incident happened around 6 a.m. Monday on the corner of West 116th Street and Fifth Avenue in Harlem.
According to police, the victim was walking to the gym and was approached by an unidentified man at the intersection.
The man pulled out a knife and immediately demanded the victim hand over his cellphone, police said.
The victim refused an a struggled ensued. During the fight, the 74-year-old suffered a laceration to his finger but, was able to retain his cellphone.

Police say the attacker fled the location on foot after he was unsuccessful in stealing the cellphone.
The victim was later treated for his laceration by EMS and was said to be in stable condition.
