NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Police released photos of a suspect on Tuesday wanted in connection with the assault of a couple during an attempted robbery in Midtown over the weekend.

The attempted robbery happened on Saturday at around 10:35 p.m. near 437 West 44th Street. A 70-year-old woman and a 75-year-old man were walking on the sidewalk when an unidentified man tried to take the woman's purse, according to police. When she resisted, the suspect threw her to the ground.

The suspect then turned to the 75-year-old man, trying to steal his wallet. When the man resisted, the suspect punched him multiple times in the face, causing serious injuries to his eye and face, cops said.

The attacker fled westbound on 44th Street on foot, throwing out his shirt before leaving the scene.

The woman suffered a bloody nose and pain in her elbow and neck, while the man had serious injuries to his face.

Both victims were transported to Mount Sinai West in stable condition.

Police said the suspect wasn't able to steal anything.
