
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A moped rider fatally mowed down a 90-year-old man, then fled the scene in Brooklyn on Tuesday morning, police said Wednesday as they continued to search for the person behind the hit-and-run.
Zhuo Xie, of Brooklyn, was crossing at East 14th Street and Avenue U in Homecrest around 9:30 a.m. when he was struck by the moped, police said.
The moped rider was traveling southbound on East 14th Street through the intersection at Avenue U with a green traffic light when the vehicle collided with Xie, who was in the crosswalk against the light, police said.
According to authorities, Xie suffered severe head trauma and was taken to NYU Langone Health, Brooklyn, where he was pronounced dead.
The operator of the moped did not remain at the scene and the investigation is ongoing, according to cops.
