NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Police arrested a man on Friday for murder and related charges in connection to the remains of a Bronx victim that were found spread between an apartment in the borough and in a burning shopping cart in Yonkers on the same day last month.
Muhammad Aadil, 40, was arrested at 9:30 a.m. and charged with second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter, concealment of a human corpse, six counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a firearm in the death of 46-year-old Lutalo Henderson.
Police listed both Aadil and Henderson’s address as 903 Rogers Ave. in Longwood, though the context of their relationship was not immediately clear.
At about 2 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 5, Yonkers Police received a call reporting a fire on the southern sidewalk of the Oak Street bridge, near the border of Mount Vernon. Westchester County Department of Public Safety officers and the Mount Vernon Fire Department responded, and when the flames were extinguished, officials found a lifeless body that had been placed in a shopping cart and set ablaze.
After a police canvass, the investigation was officially classified a homicide later in the day, and detectives said that the location appeared to be a “dump site.” Sources told NBC4 at the time that the body may have been transported to Yonkers via the Metro-North, based on video of a man rolling the same shopping cart onto the commuter rail in the Bronx.
At about 11:30 p.m. that night, the NYPD executed a search warrant at Aadil and Henderson’s apartment. They discovered drug paraphernalia and a gun in the bedroom, in addition to remains that were found in the kitchen.
1010 WINS sources linked the remains found in Yonkers and the Bronx kitchen, and said that the investigation was handed off to the NYPD and Bronx County District Attorney’s Office.
The motive behind Henderson’s murder is not yet known.
