NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A man was arrested for attacking multiple EMS workers as they responded to an emergency call in the Bronx on Thursday night, police said.
The victims were on duty and responding to a call of a person with an "altered mental status" at the time of the attack in Morris Heights around 10 p.m., according to the NYPD and FDNY.
When they got to the seventh floor of an apartment building at 1889 Sedgewick Ave., a 22-year-old man attacked them in a hallway, police said.
Five EMS members were transported to areas hospitals, according to the FDNY.
At least two of them were treated for injuries to their head and face, while a third suffered minor injuries, police said.
Jose Bencosme, who is a resident of the building, was charged with two counts of assault, the NYPD said.
Maintenance crews were seen cleaning up blood and broken glass at the building overnight.
