Kareem Flake has been held at a correctional facility in Osceola since Friday in connection with the killing of 26-year-old Destini Smothers, a source told the New York Post in a report Monday.

Smothers’ body was discovered in March 2021, when the trunk of a Toyota Camry popped open as workers were towing the vehicle near Lefferts Boulevard and 150th Avenue in South Ozone Park.

Police identified the body as Smothers, a Troy woman who went missing on Nov. 3, 2020. The city medical examiner determined she died from blunt impact to the head.

Flake was arrested in Kissimmee, Florida, for domestic battery against a different woman, according to the report. Authorities plan to extradite him to New York, although a timeframe for that is unclear.

Flake and Smothers reportedly had two children together. She had been in the city for a funeral in November 2020, but she failed to show up after attending a birthday party with Flake at a Queens bowling alley. The two had reportedly gotten into a "heated argument" that night.
