NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A man was thwarted in his attempt to light a marked police vehicle on fire in Midtown Saturday afternoon, according to police.
The suspect stuffed a lit rag in the gas tank of a marked NYPD car in front of the NYPD's Strategic Response Group 1 building near 42nd Street and 11th Avenue around noon before fleeing the scene, police said.
Quick-thinking passersby reported the man's behavior to a cop and the rag was extinguished before fire damage, according to police.
A 49-year-old suspect was arrested later that day in Manhattan, around 2:30 p.m. with charges pending, according to police.
