NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A man who told police he was ambushed by a family of three in the Bronx said he bit off the ear of one of his attackers in an act of self-defense.

The 24-year-old said he was ambushed by a mother, her husband and their son in Fordham Heights on Friday afternoon as he tried to get his phone back from one of them, sources told the New York Post.

As the man tried to retrieve his phone in front of 2387 Creston Ave., the mom hit him with a cane and her husband struck him with a piece of wood, the sources said.

In a bid to escape the familial trio, the man told police he bit off one of their ears, an act he called self-defense, according to the report.

The victim had bruising and swelling and was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, while police continued to search for the three suspects.
