Man, 76, charged with attempted murder for shooting Bronx taxi driver over payment dispute

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 76-year-old Bronx man was arrested for shooting a yellow cab driver who drove him home following a dispute over payment on Monday.

Officials charged Joseph Meeks with attempted murder, authorities said.

Just after 4:30 p.m., police received a 911 call for an assault in progress in front of a senior living facility located at 1265 Nelson Ave. in Highbridge.

Upon arrival, responding officers found a 27-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his abdomen.

According to police, Meeks had gotten into a dispute with the cab driver over payment.

The driver was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln where he is listed in stable condition.

The investigation is ongoing.
