NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A 57-year-old man is facing murder charges for the death of his mother inside of their Bronx apartment earlier this week, authorities said Wednesday.
Melvin Arias was charged with murder, manslaughter, assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
Just before 11:30 p.m. on Monday, April 29, police were called to the family's apartment on Grand Concourse near E. 156th Street in Concourse.
Upon arrival, officers observed 79-year-old Francisca Trinidad unconscious and unresponsive inside of the apartment.
EMS pronounced Trinidad dead at the scene.
It is unclear Trinidad died but officials said there was some sort of dispute leading up to her death.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.
The investigation remains ongoing.
