NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A homeless man was arrested for allegedly trying to rape a woman after putting her in a chokehold on a Midtown street earlier this month, the NYPD said Wednesday.
Aaron Baker, 22, was arrested and charged with attempted rape, sex abuse and attempted sex abuse on Tuesday, police said.
Police said the 27-year-old woman was walking in front of a building on East 33rd Street, near Madison Avenue, around 7 a.m. on June 5 when Baker approached her from behind, grabbed her throat with his hands and pushed her against a storefront gate.
After he attacked her, Baker pulled down his pants and tried to rape the woman, the NYPD said.
The woman managed to fight Baker off, at which point he fled the scene, police said. EMS workers treated her for an abrasion to her head at the scene, the NYPD said.
Baker's attorney information wasn't immediately available Wednesday.
