NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A man jumped onto the windshield of a moving SUV in Queens on Sunday evening—and was then thrown from the vehicle as the driver braked, leaving him with critical injuries, officials said.

Witnesses told police that a man in his 20s jumped onto a Nissan Pathfinder shortly before 6:30 p.m. at 184th Street and South Conduit Avenue in Springfield Gardens, just a few blocks north of JFK Airport.

As the man was stomping on the windshield of the SUV, the driver hit the brakes, causing him to fly off the vehicle and hit his head on the ground, police said.

He was rushed to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition, according to police and the FDNY.

It's unclear if the man jumped on the vehicle for no reason or if an exchange between him and the driver preceded the move.

The driver did not remain at the scene, authorities said.
