Man dies weeks after scooter collision near Columbia University

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The NYPD's Highway Collision Investigation Squad is investigating after a man died about a month after a scooter collision on a Manhattan street.

Just after 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 4, police responded to a 911 call of a vehicle collision in the vicinity of West 110th Street and Broadway near Columbia University in Morningside Heights.


A preliminary investigation determined that 37-year-old Neiser Herrera was operating a standing electric scooter eastbound on West 110th Street when he lost control of the scooter due to unknown reasons, causing him to fall to the pavement and sustain a head injury.

EMS responded and transported him to Mount Sinai Morningside in stable condition but he died on Monday,.

There are no other vehicles involved and there is no criminality suspected.

An investigation is ongoing.
