NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad is investigating a crash near Central Park Monday evening that left a Vespa driver critically injured.

Police responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of West 97 Street and Central Park West on the Upper West Side, at approximately 7:30 p.m., officials said.

A preliminary investigation determined that a 44-year-old man was driving a 2016 Nissan NV200 minivan westbound on West 97th Street when he collided with a 26-year-old man driving a 2021 Vespa scooter travelling southbound on Central Park West.

As a result of the crash, the 26-year-old man was ejected from his vehicle, came to a rest on the roadway, and sustained severe head trauma.

EMS transported the man to Mount Sinai Morningside, in critical condition.

The 44-year-old Nissan driver remained on scene and did not sustain any injuries.

This collision remains under investigation.
