NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A 29-year-old man faces hate crime charges after he was arrested Tuesday in a string of random attacks on women in Brooklyn, authorities said.
Khari Covington was charged with eight counts of assault as a hate crime and one count of attempted robbery as a hate crime, according to WNBC.
At least five of the attacks took place in the Morgan Avenue L train station in Williamsburg, with the first on Nov. 17, police said.
Covington reportedly lives several blocks away from the station at a homeless shelter.
Police also believe Covington is behind an attack on a 27-year-old woman at the Sunflower Glass Company Smoke Shop in Bushwick on Monday, WABC reported. The victim was punched and choked in that attack.
Sources told WABC that they believe light-skinned women were targeted. The victims were in their 20s and 30s.
Charges were reportedly dropped against a 50-year-old man who was previously arrested in the attacks.
