NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – The NYPD has identified a suspect who they believe is behind a sex attack spree in Union Square this week in which one woman was nearly dragged into a secluded area and another was followed into a restroom by a man who tried to rip off her clothes.
Investigators believe Christopher Marrero, 23, is responsible for the disturbing attacks, which happened over a two-hour span—and just two blocks apart—on Sunday morning.
The first victim, a 21-year-old woman, was targeted by Marrero at 16th Street and Fifth Avenue shortly after 10 a.m., police said. He allegedly tried to drag her into a secluded area, but she was able to get away.
After fleeing the first attack, Marrero allegedly set his sights on a 24-year-old woman at 14th Street and Fifth Avenue around 12 p.m. Police said he followed her into a restroom and tried to remove her clothing, but she was able to escape.
Neither victim required medical attention, according to cops.
Marrero fled on foot down Fifth Avenue and remained at large as of Thursday, the NYPD said.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
