Man in bucket hat tries to rape woman on Bronx street: NYPD

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police are searching for a man who they say tried to rape a woman on a street in the South Bronx on Thursday morning.

The NYPD released an image Friday of the suspect wearing a bright red shirt and a bucket hat.

The 20-year-old woman was in the area of East 150th Street and Wales Avenue in Melrose around 1:15 a.m. when the man targeted her, police said.

He tried to rape her but ultimately fled the scene on foot, according to cops. He was last seen heading northbound on Wales Avenue.

The victim wasn’t physically injured, police said.
